This course takes about 45 minutes. You can stop at any point and pick up where you left off.
It is for anyone who might have a bullying complaint brought to them, supervisors, managers, business owners, HR and health and safety representatives.
Start with the awareness course
This one assumes you already know the legal test for bullying, why reasonable management action is not bullying and how bullying differs from harassment and discrimination. If any of that is unfamiliar, take Workplace Bullying Awareness first. It is free and takes half an hour.
What this course does
It walks through what happens after someone tells you. The first conversation, the duties that start the moment you know, how to keep people safe without punishing the person who spoke up, what a fair process actually requires and how to close it out, including when nothing can be proven.
What it does not do
It will not qualify you to run a complex investigation. That is a genuine skill, and serious matters need someone trained, independent and often external.
You will notice the course repeatedly tells you when to stop and get help. That is not caution for its own sake. A well-founded complaint can be destroyed by a badly run process, and the person who suffers most when that happens is the person who complained.
It is general information about Australian law as at 2026, not legal advice, and it does not replace your organisation’s own policy, which you should read before you need it.
One thing to hold on to
Almost every serious mistake in this area is made in the first few days, usually by someone acting decisively and with good intentions.
